When it comes to boxing, everyone seems to have an opinion about what makes a great bout “great,” just as every football fan seems to think their critique of a game is the only one that matters. So, exactly what is it that matters most?

The drama, either prefight or during?

The surprise punches that absolutely no one saw coming?

The prowess and athleticism of the fighter?

New techniques that deserve new names in honor of their originality?

Or just tried and true technical expertise?

Weight class requirement vary depending upon the sanctioning body of a particular fight (such as WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO), but for the sake of this reference the following weight classes and their corresponding maximum allowable weight are in accordance with the WBA (in other words, the upper weight limit for each class is the lower limit of the next highest class):

• Heavyweight: Over 200 pounds
• Cruiserweight:  200 pounds
• Light Heavyweight: 175 pounds
• Super Middleweight: 168 pounds
